Mary Hunt's Bio:
With many years of successful entrepreneurial experience under her belt, Mary Hunt felt ready to take public her credo, “Bringing dignity to the art of living within ones means.” As creator and editor of Cheapskate Monthly, a monthly newsletter that premiered in January 1992 to overwhelming success, Mary has combined her expertise in business with a message that overspenders and those burdened with debt seem ready to hear.

Now in its 10th year, Cheapskate Monthly continues to expand its consumer influence and subscriber base, most notably through its electronic family of subscribers via the online edition of the monthly newsletter at Debuting in 1998, the Web site has attracted more than 2.5 million visitors and features Mary’s constant theme of financial responsibility, empowerment and hope.

As a nationally respected author and speaker on spending habits and consumer debt, Mary travels around the country empowering Americans to use their resources wisely and manage their households responsibly. In the fall of 1999 Mary launched her Debt-Proof Living seminars, wherein she teaches audiences through her upbeat, ‘can-do’ attitude that financial independence is not a matter of having enough money, but of having the right attitude.

In addition to her role as author, cheerleader and speaker, Mary has repeatedly been asked by corporate America to expand her scope and influence to consumers. Winter 2000 saw Mary as spokesperson for Microsoft Money’s “Cash-Positive Holiday Season,” and in Spring 2001 consumers heard Mary’s “Common Sense Approach to a Stress-Free Tax Season,” also sponsored by Microsoft Money.

In addition, Mary is the Values Expert for Quaker Bagged Cereals, as well as the Savings Guru at She can also be seen on such national television shows as Good Morning America and Oprah; and is a regular contributor to KNBC-TV Los Angeles; and Woman’s Day, Sam’s Source, Family Circle and HomeLife magazines.

Additional consumer-focused roles have seen Mary serving as national spokesperson for a Quaker Oats Bagged Cereal campaign in Winter 1998, wherein she focused on managing holiday overspending and offered ways of saving money year-round. Mary had previously served as a national spokesperson in the fall of 1996 on a special promotional campaign for MCI’s money-saving Friends and Family Free.

Mary has found success and satisfaction in her unique role of bringing hope to many who are buried under the weight of consumer debt through her newsletter, her public speaking and her books. With the recent renaming and updating of the 1997 best-selling book Cheapskate in the Kitchen, Cheapskate Gourmet (Broadman & Holman Publishers, 2001) brings to 12 the number of books authored by Mary.
