In 2001 author Jerry B. Jenkins stunned industry watchers when Publisher’s Weekly announced that the Christian Left Behind title Desecration was the No. 1 bestselling hardcover fiction title for all of 2001. Jenkins had knocked mainstream author John Grisham out of the position he had occupied since 1994. In 2004 Time Magazine reported on the phenomenonal success of the Left Behind series with a cover story. That same year, Entertainment Weekly ranked Jenkins in the top half of its 101 most powerful entertainers.
