Lost in Rooville

by Ray Blackston

Review  |   Author Bio  |  Read an Excerpt

Mixing his beloved quirky characters with acres of orange dirt and kangaroos, Blackston takes readers on another unforgettable adventure, this time in the outback of Australia. Jay, Allie, Steve, and Darcy head down under, proceeded by the honeymooners Neil and Alexis – dubbed “the Couple Who Could Not Wait.” And as if two Land Rovers, scenic rock formations, and miles of arid wilderness weren’t exciting enough, Jay has toted a ring to this distant land for an extraordinary proposal. Unfortunately for him, Steve has the same idea.

The two couples split up to facilitate two extraordinary proposals, but soon competition leads to disaster. Stranded with few supplies, Jay finds himself questioning faith, God, and existence as circumstances worsen.

Though Blackston often tackles difficult issues through zany escapades, in this novel he goes a bit deeper, fitting with the maturing of his characters. Those who’ve enjoyed his previous novels will be relieved he didn’t skimp on the humor, despite the serious themes. The free-flowing plot keeps interest throughout the book. While it’s disappointing that this is the last of the “Flabbergasted Trilogy,” the epilogue wraps up the story with a satisfying conclusion. Recommended for singles and anyone ready for adventure. -- Katie Hart, Christian Book
