Danger Calling (Adult Edition)

by Peb Jackson & James Lund

Review  |   Author Bio  |  Read an Excerpt

Adventure – that’s the main theme of Danger Calling by Peb Jackson and James Lund. This book ties danger and faith together, from freezing mountaintops to raging wildfires. Both authors present a dangerous situation, expand it as a story, and then have readers explore it through discussion questions at the end, along with a devotional thought. The goal is to provoke edgy debates and challenge the Christian faith.

Danger Calling has two main points: first, to make readers realize that danger is a part of life, so having basic survival skills is vital; second, to recognize that danger has a way of making people listen to God. The book consists of sixteen stories with questions. Jackson is a regular adventurer and outdoorsman and Lund is an award winning writer, which provides the best of both worlds when it comes to this book.

The biblical undercurrent of this book’s messages is to “be strong and courageous, for the Lord your God is with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deut. 31:6). Danger is part of life; we never know when we will be in a situation wherein we might die. But God is with us no matter how bad things might seem, and he will give us the confidence to do whatever is necessary to survive.

Danger Calling a great book for personal use or group devotional time. The book is strong in all areas and flows nicely. I see ages 12 and older benefiting from this book, so I strongly recommend it. – Isaac Hamlin,

Book Jacket:

Available in both an adult and a youth edition, Danger Calling features 16 true stories that take readers on a high-adrenaline ride--from the depths of the sea to the top of Mount Everest and everywhere in between--and pose provocative questions that move men and teen boys forward in their lives and faith. Danger Calling challenges readers to discover if they are truly living out God's game plan for their lives: Would you stop to help a climber in the "death zone" on Everest? What is your source of strength in a crisis? Could you lead others into battle knowing some are likely to die? To what challenge is God summoning you right now? Each story thrills and engages. Each set of questions challenges readers to discover who they are, where they stand in their faith, and whether God is calling them to a life of greater risks and deeper meaning. The youth edition contains a combination of eight stories of youth adventures, as well as eight from the adult version. Both books are perfect for small group use and include study questions with each chapter.
