And She Lived Happily Ever After: Finding Fulfillment As A Single Woman

by Skip McDonald

Review  |   Author Bio  |  Read an Excerpt

In a culture that emphasizes romantic love, few women say they are happily single, but Skip McDonald does. In her book And She Lived Happily Ever After, McDonald shares her excitement for the Christian single lifestyle and the lessons she has learned.

McDonald’s book covers many issues that singles face daily. The book has a conversational style, and it can be read rather quickly. Each chapter includes questions that can be used as discussion tools or for personal reflection. The author has degrees in theology and nursing, and she ministers through her nursing, women’s ministry, and Nurse Christian Fellowship.

Some of the topics the McDonald tackles include identity, purity, past sexual sins, balance in relationships, intimacy with God, and even tips for churches that minister to singles. However, the overriding theme is that singleness is a gift. Skips writes, “Singleness is a blessing because it gives us the opportunity to trust that God desires our very best. And in order to trust God, we must come to know this loving God intimately--an incredible blessing.”

And She Lived Happily Ever After is a breath of fresh air to singles who are tired of being asked when they’re going to settle down. It’s practical, yet it also confronts some difficult issues. It left me feeling that if I never get married, I’ll be okay. It made the world seem less of a scary place for a Christian single woman than I had imagined. I enjoyed reading this book, and I recommend it to single women in their twenties and older. -- Jennifer Logue, Christian Book
