Beyond the Sorrow

by Tammy Trent

Review  |   Author Bio  |  Read an Excerpt

Beyond the Sorrow is CCM artist Tammy Trent’s testimony to God’s comfort after the sudden death of her husband in 2001. It shows how God provides even in the darkest days of grief and sadness. Trent remains faithful to God’s plans for her.

Trent’s story is honest and heartfelt. With a journal-like style, she recounts her struggles and how God saw her through them. She also includes numerous Scripture verses, quotes, and letters from people who wrote to encourage her. Before this, Trent also wrote the book, Learning to Breathe Again.

“I’ve traveled through grief and sorrow,” Trent writes. “And God keeps calling me to a new place beyond the sorrow and into his joy.” Trent’s story is full of “God moments”--like the love note from her husband she found after he had died--that testify to God’s unfailing love and loyalty to believers.

Beyond the Sorrow is cut from a similar cloth as C.S. Lewis’s classic A Grief Observed. It is honest and genuine but, most importantly, not preachy. The only drawback is that the compilation of Trent’s thoughts and the words of others are not always clearly marked, which is confusing at times. And she has few quotes or stories from men. However, this is an excellent read for women grieving losses of any kind. -- Nathan J. S. Marchand, Christian Book

Book Jacket:

This book of hope from Tammy Trent interweaves third-person stories and letters of people who needed—and found—encouragement. We’re not alone in our our struggles our loneliness...or in our questions. Other people are going through tough times too, and are pressing on through the storms.

It's usually easier for us to press on when we see that others have gone before us and have found joy again. We often need others to stand in the gap for us, when we cannot stand on our own during those difficult times. If we look—if we watch, we'll see and notice that we are never alone.

When it's more then we can bear—Jesus stands in those gaps for us. He is able. Give it to God and let Him put your life back together again!
