His Mighty Warrior: A Treasure Map from Your King

by Sheri Rose Shepherd

Review  |   Author Bio  |  Read an Excerpt

The premise of His Mighty Warrior, by Sheri Rose Shepherd, is God choosing to write to his faithful servant, whom he calls “Son”, and giving him instructions for setting goals in life, following Christian practices, and serving Him in noble ways. The child servant then writes a letter back to God, promising to fulfill the new missions, requirements or commandments. The author then inserts a quoted passage of Scripture to show the biblical reference for the principle the Son is being asked to follow. Supplementing these letters are colorful drawings of a young lad traveling by old time sailing vessel across vast waters to uncharted islands and distant kingdoms in his quests to serve the Lord.

This is a rather interesting format by which to introduce youngsters to a wide range of topics, including money management, biblical studies, obedience, servitude, and worship. His Mighty Warrior can be read in short segments or for long periods, since each set of facing pages presents its own letters addressing a stand-alone topic. Some of the vocabulary words are a bit advanced and sophisticated and will require the help of an older reader, but the lessons and messages are fundamental enough to have an impact of children of all ages. -- Dr. Dennis E. Hensley,
